Three recent News & Comment articles in the scientific journal Nature feature quotes from interviews with Robert Tijssen as one of the international experts that commented on current developments in university-industry interactions, on economic returns of science as well as contributions of university research in technological development worldwide.
Adding a dose of empirical evidence to the last mentioned News & Comment, Robert and Jos Winnink also contributed data that identifies the global top 10 ‘R&D Powerhouse’ universities. This dataset, derived from their newly developed performance indicator based on citations to academic research articles from highly-cited patents, captures contributions of university research on the world’s breakthrough technologies. These first results emphasize the impacts of biomedical research at leading US universities on biotechnology and pharma-related patents.
