Dr. Guus Dix

Guus Dix is a postdoctoral researcher at the Science and Evaluation Studies (SES) group. He works on the ZonMw-funded project ‘Optimizing the responsible researcher’ which aims to investigate how responsible biomedical research is stimulated or hampered by institutional arrangements, notably in recruitment and advancement.

Before, Guus pursued two research projects as a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. In a qualitative project on the role of economic expertise in Dutch policymaking processes, he studied the emergence of performance pay for teachers as a promising policy measure to enhance educational achievement and boost long-term economic growth. In a historical book project Incentives: A Genealogy (under contract with Princeton University Press) he traces the development of ‘incentivization’ as a framework to understand human behavior and set of instruments to steer it in a different direction.
