Julia Heuritsch completed a master in astrophysics and decided for an interdisciplinary career in science research. Joining the Centre for Science and Technology Studies for that purpose, her main research focus concerns academic career systems. In particular, she is studying the various career paths that doctorate holders pursue after completing their PhD. She compares skills that researchers acquired during their PhDs with the skills they need in their current jobs and the motivation doctorate researchers for doing the PhD, which determines their subsequent job choice.
This project is carried out in collaboration with Statistics Netherlands (CBS, Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek).
Next to her research work, she will be involved in PhD representation at Leiden University as the 2016 External Affairs board member of the Leiden PhD Association.
