For many researchers, citation is an important way of demonstrating our knowledge, acknowledging the sources of our ideas, and connecting with debates in our fields. Recent studies (and they will be mentioned during the presentation) have highlighted the systematic under-citation of women and other marginalized groups in various fields. In this talk, we will discuss recent activities we have undertaken in Maastricht to help students and colleagues develop tactics to address this problem. We would like to take the opportunity of engaging with CWTS colleagues and guests to go further, to think more deeply about what is meant by ‘citational justice’ and how it could be measured.
