GraspOS - Next Generation Research Assessment to Promote Open Science

The concept behind GraspOS is to build the European Federated Open Metrics Infrastructure in a decentralised way, where: different types of data come together to create metrics; tools and services are developed to improve EU or global infrastructures but are also shared with national or institutional monitoring platforms; indicators and assessment protocols are developed, tested and shared. A metrics infrastructure that by its nature supports research organisations and communities to design their own paths on how to include OS in their RRA protocols and that they select solutions that meet their needs and may apply them at their own controlled environment and own pace. The end result would be to bring a sense of openness and consistency in the metrics domain, which would also allow diversity in assessment and innovation in meta-research.

GraspOS

GraspOS follows a continuous and phased approach in delivering the services and infrastructure in four main implementation phases:

  • Initial design phase: This phase, covering the first months of the project, will perform the initial requirement analysis and will produce the initial specifications, kick-starting the developments of all GraspOS’s components.
  • Early co-development & evaluation phase: During this phase the implementation work will commence. A co-creation development approach that involves stakeholders (from the pilot communities) in the design will be followed. In the context of this co-creation approach, the stakeholders’ feedback will be gathered and considered in an agile development process. In addition, stakeholders will perform continuous validation and evaluation for all the components.
  • Late co-development & evaluation phase: During this phase the co-development approach will continue similarly to the previous phase. However, additional focus will be given on the integration of all components in the EOSC ecosystem. The result of this phase will be the production of the final version of OSAF, the release of the API documentation and of the supporting venues (forum) for the developers, and the production-ready, EOSC-integrated release of the tools, services and infrastructure.
  • Production-ready phase: The final phase of the development is dedicated to iterating over the design and implementation, of the tools, services, and infrastructure based on the results of the evaluation process. In addition, the focus of the efforts will be given on the bug fixes and maintenance. Finally, a final burst of dissemination activities are planned with the aim to maximise the uptake and impact of GraspOS
