On December 21, 2021 Zhichao Fang, PhD candidate at CWTS, successfully defended his dissertation ‘Towards Advanced Social Media Metrics: Understanding the Diversity and Characteristics of Twitter Interactions around Science’. In his dissertation Zhichao presents an in-depth study of the interaction with scientific research on social media, in particular on Twitter.
In 2017 Zhichao obtained his Master’s degree in Science of Science and Science & Technology Management at the WISE Lab of Dalian University of Technology. Funded by the Chinese Scholarship Council, Zhichao then moved to Leiden to start his PhD research at our center, working closely together with his supervisors dr. Rodrigo Costas and prof.dr. Paul Wouters. Over the past four years Zhichao has developed a rigorous in-depth understanding of altmetrics, and specifically of Twitter-based metrics. His work has been published in several high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
